Emergency Care

The Emergency Care at Haskell County Healthcare System sees over 5,000 patients each year. Our staff is specially trained and credentialed to provide emergency care in a way that combines technology with compassion. Our team of providers includes board certified family medicine physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and multi-skilled technicians. Experienced staff and full treatment capabilities are available twenty-four hours per day, 365 days per year. We are a Level IV trauma hospital in the Oklahoma Trauma System with medical evacuation to tertiary care centers by both ground and air ambulance services.

When should I seek emergency care?

We recommend an immediate trip to the emergency room for the following symptoms:

Bleeding from wounds that is not controlled despite pressure
Chest pain
Choking
Coma or changes in level of awareness
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
Major burns
New onset of numbness, tingling, weakness of an extremity
New onset of seizures or convulsion
Poisoning or taking an overdose of medication
Severe injuries, especially those that affect the head, abdomen, neck or back
Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
Significant amount of bleeding from the vagina, rectum or when vomiting
Sudden dizziness, headache or change in vision
Sudden severe pain occurring anywhere for any reason, known or unknown
Thoughts of suicide or homicide
Weakness, fainting, or feeling as if you are going to pass out

We recommend dialing 911 if you have a medical emergency that requires immediate intervention.

When calling 911, speak as calmly and clearly as you can. It is important that you do not delay treatment. Many medical conditions require that you receive treatment within a certain timeframe in order to prevent serious complications. Those time frames may be as short as within 1 hour from the time your symptoms start. Stay on the phone with the 911 operator until the operator tells you that you may hang up.

Your name

What is a Level IV Trauma Center?

A Level IV trauma center provides the stabilization and treatment of severely injured patients in remote areas where no alternative care is available. To be considered a Level IV trauma center, facilities must provide initial evaluation and assessment of injured patients. Most patients will require transfer to facilities with more resources dedicated to providing optimal care for the injured patient.
